Succulent Gardens Extravaganza 9/28—9/29

In just 48 hours—on Friday, September 28, 2012—Succulent Gardens’ 2nd annual Succulent Extravaganza will be under way. This two-day event is jam-packed with seminars, demonstrations, nursery walks, a BBQ on Friday, and of course thousands upon thousands of the most perfect succulents you’ll find anywhere.

I attended last year’s Extravaganza and I took so many photos, I ended up writing two blog posts:

Part 1: public plantings, agaves, aloes, etc.

Part 2: echeverias and aeoniums

The seminars and presentations alone make this a must-go event but the public plantings and the greenhouses filled with plants are just as spectacular.

I won’t be able to attend the presentations on Friday but I plan on being there for the BBQ from 4-6pm to hang out with many of the good folks who frequent the Succulent Fanatics group on Facebook.

On Saturday, I’ll be there for the better part of the day. I don’t want to miss the 9am garden tour with Brian Kemble, curator of the Ruth Bancroft Gardens, Debra Lee Baldwin’s 10:15am talk on “Design Projects with Succulents,” and Flora Grubb’s 1:15pm talk on “What’s Next for Succulents.” Hopefully I’ll find time in between to do some photography and plant shopping.

The Succulent Extravaganza will be held at Succulent Gardens, 2133 Elkhorn Road in Castroville, CA.

If you live in Northern California or on the Central Coast and love succulents, you should not miss this event.

The best thing: It’s completely free! You even get free donuts in the morning :-)
