The 65th annual Show & Sale of the Sacramento Cactus & Succulent Society is happening this weekend at the Shepard Garden and Arts Center in McKinley Park . If you're in Sacramento – or anywhere in Northern California – be sure to head on over: Saturday, May 3 , from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, May 4 , from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission and parking are free. There'll be a judged show with some of the best cacti and succulents you'll see in our neck of the woods; judging is Saturday morning, and the show will open to the public by noon. But the biggest draw is the huge selection of plants for sale – great pottery, too. For a complete list of vendors, scroll down to the bottom of this post. I was there this morning (Friday) to help set up and took a bunch of photos. Maybe they'll tempt you to jump in the car and stop by!  Bill Munkascy's flowering cacti are a draw every year Rebutias in flower Reds, purples, pinks, yellows, it's all there Oanh Vu... ...speci...

2024 San Francisco Succulent Expo, June 14-16

What are you doing on June 14–16? If you’re in the Bay Area that weekend, make plans to visit the 2024 San Francisco Succulent Expo. This event at the San Francisco County Fair Building in Golden Gate Park celebrates the 40th anniversary of the San Francisco Succulent & Cactus Society (SFSCS) . It’s a rebranding of the club’s traditional June Show & Sale. The new name is meant to evoke the great World’s Fairs held in San Francisco in the past, like the Panama–Pacific International Exposition in 1915 and the Golden Gate International Exposition in 1939–1940. The 2024 San Francisco Succulent Expo, which is free and open to the public, promises to be bigger and better than any previous SFSCS Show & Sale. Exceptional specimens of succulents and cacti will be on display in the “Nicely Grown!” show. Notable experts like Walker Young, Steven Hammer, and Kelly Griffin will give hands-on demonstrations and presentations. And of course there will be vendors selling plants and potter...

After skipping the last few years because of the pandemic, the San Francisco Cactus & Succulent Society Show and Sale is back. In fact, it's going on right now, June 17 to 19, 2022 at the County Fair Building in Golden Gate Park ( directions here ). There's still time to go; on Saturday, the hours are 10 am to 5 pm; on Sunday, 9 am to 5 pm.  Over 30 plant vendors are selling a huge variety of cacti and other succulents. In addition, members of the San Francisco Bromeliad Society are selling choice bromeliads. I was there on Friday afternoon for the members-only sale and took some photos to whet your appetite. My friend Justin Thiel is a first-time vendor. Be sure to check out his table. He's also selling some of my plants.
