Sacramento Cactus & Succulent Society Show & Sale happening *NOW*

The 65th annual Show & Sale of the Sacramento Cactus & Succulent Society is happening this weekend at the Shepard Garden and Arts Center in McKinley Park. If you're in Sacramento – or anywhere in Northern California – be sure to head on over: Saturday, May 3, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, May 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission and parking are free.

There'll be a judged show with some of the best cacti and succulents you'll see in our neck of the woods; judging is Saturday morning, and the show will open to the public by noon. But the biggest draw is the huge selection of plants for sale – great pottery, too. For a complete list of vendors, scroll down to the bottom of this post.

I was there this morning (Friday) to help set up and took a bunch of photos. Maybe they'll tempt you to jump in the car and stop by!

Bill Munkascy's flowering cacti are a draw every year

Rebutias in flower

Reds, purples, pinks, yellows, it's all there

Oanh Vu...

...specializes in echinopsis...

...and epiphyllum hybrids

If you prefer spinier cacti, you have lots to choose from, like these from Austin and Mel (Sacramento's  own Public Land Store)

Weird and wonderful (Austin and Mel)

And perfectly unarmed beauties

Nick Wilkinson (Grow Nursery) has more than just cacti – aloes...

...and dudleyas, too

Dioscorea elephantipes (Nick Wilkinson)

This beautiful Aloidendron ramosissima is on Cassidy Roberts-Yee's table

I've never seen a crassula this color!

Amie Frisch (Vivid Roots) brought a huge selection of Crassulaceae

If euphorbias are your thing, Peter Walkowiak has you covered

Adeniums and euphorbias (Peter Walkowiak)

Uncarina and adenium (Peter Walkowiak)

Even carnivorous plants

Lots of pottery in every size and price range; these are by Emily and Richard Withers

Mike Cone

All the vendors above are outside. More plant and pottery vendors are inside the building; I didn't take photos inside because they have a weird color cast from the fluorescent lighting.

  1. I didn't realize that Mike Cone and Mark Muradian were still at shows. They used to come to the CACSS shows and the DBG shows. Not in the last few years. Love all the terrific plants from the vendors!

    1. Mike now lives in the Central Valley, that's probably why you haven't seen him.
