Summer 2020 desert road trip: a fantasy

From the photos below, it's easy to see what I really want to do right now: go on a road trip, preferably to the desert. I know, it's sizzling hot there right now, it being summer and all, but that's just one of those facts of life you deal with. After all, we've been dealing with far worse these past few months—three, four? I can hardly remember how many it's been.

But no matter how much I want to go, it's still too dicey out there for me to be comfortable. So for now, all I can do is look at the photos below as I indulge in this fantasy.

And I can listen to my desert road trip playlist featuring favorites like these:

⧪ Hans Zimmer: Thunderbird

⧪ AWOLNATION: Sail

 Kings of Leon: Cold Desert

⧪ Sting & Cheb Mami: Desert Rose

⧪ Glen Frey: Part Of Me, Part Of You

⧪ Bruce Springsteen: Racing In The Street

⧪ Tony Carey: Blue Highway

⧪ Tony Carey: Room With A View

⧪ U2: With Or Without You

⧪ Eagles: Hotel California

  1. This looks like a retro psychedelic western! I expect Clint Eastwood to pop into the frame any minute.

    1. Yeah, the photos are a bit psychedelic. My inspiration were old polaroids.

  2. Hotel California-my friends and I used to drive down to Baja (San Felipe) in the 70's. Bad roads, great seafood.
When I was a little kid my parents would drive to AZ on vaca in summer. Highway 60-Salome(where she danced)Desert Wells, Hope and Wickenburg. Windows rolled down, no AC in the car. The desert has been a part of my life all my life.

    1. Wow, these are fantastic memories. It seems like it was so easy then to head down to Baja. I wish I'd experienced that.

  3. Oh the dream of freedom. Was asked the other day what our plans for the summer were. Hmmm, none.

    1. Same here. Even the fact that you really CAN'T make plans is so hard...

  4. We all need that sense of freedom right now but I'm glad you found a way to get that state of mind without sacrificing safety or good sense. I pushed the envelope a little this week by having 3 friends over for a "bring your own lunch" in my back garden and followed that up 2 days later with a trip to my local botanic garden but both activities were still in the low risk category. Shopping for groceries is a dicier proposition by comparison.

    1. I agree with you there! Meeting up with people outside is definitely safer than (almost) bumping into people in the grocery store!

  5. Those are cool photos. I especially like the abandoned gas station one.

My fantasy is summer that stays cool and June-Gloomy all the way into September. A road trip is probably more realistic, ha ha!
