Our siding project wrapped up on Wednesday. To our amazement, the crew completed this massive undertaking in just eight working days. They worked long days: typically 10 hours, on Friday even 12 — in total, about 370 human-hours. They were like a well-oiled machine; everybody had their assigned duties, and it seemed that very little time was wasted on lengthy backs and forths.
I’ve started putting the garden back together, but it will take some time. This is the perfect opportunity to make edits and move things around until it feels right. You’ll be the first to know when there’s anything newsworthy to report.
Today, though, is the big day when I reveal the siding color we chose. I realize y’all have been waiting with bated breath, maybe even lying awake at night, tormented by not knowing. Wonder no more!
But first I want to show you some of the colors we could have chosen but didn’t:

The color we picked is...
...Gray Slate:

We wanted a neutral darker color that would go well with the plantings. The color seems to change a bit depending on the light. Sometimes it has a warmer cast, sometimes it’s almost pure gray. This is what it looks like in full sun:

We had a rare overcast morning a few days ago. This probably the truest representation of the color:

We also decided to get new light fixtures for the backyard because the old ones were quite rusty. I was relieved to see how good they look against the lines of the siding:
The fixtures in the front of the house still look good. They are a pewter color, which matches Gray Slate almost perfectly:
Enough about the house. On the gardening front, I’ve been busy on all kinds of projects, rearranging, renovating, rebuilding. First update coming soon.

ReplyDeleteWhew, means a lot.
DeleteIt looks great, Gerhard! I love the new light fixtures too.
ReplyDeleteI love the color, Gerhard! It's great with the plants. It looks like a brand new house! The lighting is beautiful, also.
ReplyDeleteGreat choice, & the new fixtures go so well!
ReplyDeleteCan't go wrong with gray: always elegant. It's crazy how lighting, shade vs. sun, makes such a differentce in it's appearance.
