2023 Sacramento Cactus & Succulent Society Show & Sale, May 5–7, 2023

This weekend, May 5–7, 2023, the Sacramento Cactus and Succulent Society (SCSS) will hold its annual Show & Sale at Shepard Garden and Arts Center in Sacramento’s McKinley Park. This is the 63rd Annual Show & Sale; I believe the only year to be skipped was 2020.

In the past, the show was judged by experts in the field. This year, there will be a non-judged exhibition showcasing the immense variety of cacti and succulents. Club members at all levels are encouraged to enter their best plants. The organizers are hoping for a great show with hundreds of immaculately grown succulents.

The biggest draw will be the sales area. Since the show is on a smaller scale this year, there will be extra room for sale tables. 21 vendors will be selling plants and pottery—a new record. Many are familiar faces, but there will also be several vendors who are making their Sacramento debut. Here’s the complete list:

  1. Jim Smith
  2. Austin and Mel, Public Land Store
  3. Stan Verkler
  4. Nick Wilkinson, Grow Nursery
  5. Annie Wolf, Desert Wonders
  6. Bill Munkacsy, Planta Seca
  7. Cassidy Roberts-Yee, Radiant Cactus
  8. David Calibo, Gardener’s Home
  9. J.D. Wikert
  10. John and Naomi Bloss, California Succulents
  11. Kal Kaminer, LA Succulents
  12. Lesley Shores & Jerry Slater, L & J Plants & Things
  13. Oahn Vu, Green Gemini Cactuz
  14. Peter Beiersdorfer & Jaan Lepson, P. B. & J. Cacti and Succulents
  15. Peter Walkowiak, PW Plants
  16. Gianluca Bacci & Shawn Shumaker
  17. Richard & Emily Withers, Dry Creek Cactus & Pottery and Ekishi Pottery
  18. Keith Taylor (pottery)
  19. Mike Cone (pottery)
  20. Mark Muradian (pottery)
  21. Martin Gil (pottery)

With so many vendors, visitors are sure to find something new and exciting to buy, whether they’re into cacti, succulents, caudiciforms, or carnivorous plants.

Five pottery vendors, a new record, will bring a large variety of pots in all price ranges.

  1. You lucky, lucky Californians, what a feast to the eye.

  2. Oh how I wish I was able to attend. However, based on how many gorgeous plants will be available perhaps it's a good thing I can't be there. Look forward to hearing all about the show and seeing your plant picks. Have fun.

  3. I agree with Elaine above. You are lucky but, I would spend way too much! Can't wait for what you buy also!

    1. Day 1 haul here: https://www.succulentsandmore.com/2023/05/2023-sacramento-cactus-succulent_5.html

  4. Excellent exhibition. This is much better than in previous years. Lots of good and rare plants. It is a pity, of course, that many plants are from China. I would like to see more plants grown from seed to plant.

    1. I know what you mean about China, but *many* vendors grow their plants from seed. I can't name names, but if you ask, they'll tell you--with pride.

  5. I was at this year's cactus show in Phoenix. Our show in Sacramento is much bigger and better. I'm glad about it. Added another dozen new cacti to my collection.

    1. Awesome! I've been to many other shows, and I agree, ours is one of the biggest.
