Aloe going for a ride on Cannery Row

As you may remember from this post, we spent a couple of days on the Monterey Peninsula a few weekends ago. Driving along on Cannery Row, the waterfront street in New Monterey made famous by John Steinbeck in his eponymous novel, this is what we saw:

What the heck?

A large Aloe ferox, in glorious bloom, riding in the back of a pickup truck in the company of Agave attenuata, Aeonium 'Sunburst' and other succulents.

I was driving, but my wife and daughter sprang into action with lightning speed and snapped these photos.

Definitely a sight I won't forget!

  2. I actually have a stash of OG labels from one of the canneries of Cannery Row. Marty and I were nosing around an abandoned factory many years ago...We regularly brought the kids up to the aquarium here which is simply amazing. So glad you got some R&R!

  3. Were you considering following it? Would have been interesting to see where they were headed.
