Cactus flowers to brighten a hot Tuesday
Work’s been keeping me busy, cutting down on the time I have available to spend in the garden. But even on a hectic day like today I found a few minutes to putter around. Look what I found:
My Parodia magnificus, a ball cactus from southern Brazil, has two flowers! I love how delicate and fragile they look.
Most cactus flowers don’t last very long. However, the rebutias in this shallow bowl have been blooming for a full month now:
I first posted about them on May 21. Here we are, on July 1, and there are still flowers.
I hope your garden is rewarding you with unexpected surprises!
The flower on the Parodia magnificus lives up to its name.
ReplyDeleteI agree! So beautiful. I find this is one of the easiest cacti to grow in our climate.
DeleteThe flower of the Parodia is certainly quite something, and as you've said it looks so delicate too.
ReplyDeleteThat delicateness surprises me year after year :-).
DeleteThe fuzzy caterpillar-like things behind the Parodia magnificus blooms -- is that what the blooms turn into? Really nice combination!
ReplyDeleteThose are the unopened flower buds. By now almost all of them have opened up.
