Plant sale at Ruth Bancroft Garden on October 8

110409_shadow_portraitJust a quick reminder: If you live in Northern California and are into succulents or drought-tolerant plants, the Ruth Bancroft Garden in Walnut Creek will hold their fall plant sale this coming Saturday, October 8. Doors open at 9am for members and at 11am for the public. Garden admission is free all day.

If you’ve never been, this is a great time visit. Check out my previous posts (1 2 3 4) to get an idea of what awaits you.

I went to their spring plant sale and had a great time. I’ll be there this Saturday at 9am sharp to get first dibs on whatever there will be available. I’m hoping to find a giant coreopsis (Coreopsis gigantea).

The plant sale is followed on Sunday, October 9, by their fall festival featuring crafts and games, storytelling, pumpkins and gourds. Tickets are $5.

And on Wednesday, October 12, RBG curator Brian Kemble will lead a fruit tasting tour through the garden where visitors get to try prickly pears and other cactus and palm fruits. Admission to this event is $20 for the public, $15 for members.

For more information on these events, go to to RBG website.

  1. Sound like fun events! I read "fruit tasting tour" as "frustrating tour" at first, and thought that was a poorly-planned event.

  2. Alan, "frustrating tour," now THAT made me laugh! I wish I could go to the fruit-tasting tour, but it's during the day and I can't get away.
